04 Feb 2018: Archers 63-73 Pride

Caledonia Pride take the win in Cardiff as they bounce back from Cup Final disappointment.

WBBL Championship

Cardiff Met Archers 63-73 Caledonia Pride (15-21, 32-38, 48-53)

It was a double dose of home disappointment for Archers, who lost for a second time in as many days on their home floor after being pipped by Pride.

The hosts were without Great Britain duo Eilidh Simpson and Stef Collins, which didn’t help them in their quest to hit back after losing to Oaklands Wolves on Saturday.

Meanwhile Caledonia were able to make up for their WBBL Cup Final defeat last Sunday to make an immediate return to winning ways in the WBBL Championship, as they recorded a fifth win of their league campaign.

Leading scorers – Quick 26, Schnorr 14, Shanahan 9, Richards 9 (Archers), Robb 20, Oakes 15, Mackie 10 (Pride).

Turning point – Pride really did get onto the front foot with a 15-2 run either side of the first and second quarter break. That gave them a double-digit cushion and one that Archers were never able to claw back.

Key stat – 21 points on the fast-break was a big number for Pride.

Game hero(es) – Hannah Robb was terrific in posting a team-high 20 points, while Tricia Oakes amassed a superb double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds, as well as 4 blocked shots.
