WBBL Championship

Cardiff Met Archers 54 – 47 BA London Lions (19-19, 32-30, 41-35)

Cardiff Met Archers prevailed in an extremely close encounter with BA London Lions, winning 54-47 on their home floor behind a huge 25 points from Merissa Quick – the only player on her team to score in double-figures.

The win moves Archers to 2-2 for the season, while Lions are 0-3. It was the first Cardiff win in the last four meetings between these teams.

Leading Scorers: Quick 25, Collins 8, Schnorr 8 (Archers); Ellmore 14, Gaskin 9, Christie 7 (Lions)

Turning Point: The teams could hardly be separated, including 11 first half lead changes, until the Archers’ defence dominated the third quarter. They held Lions to just five third quarter points, including no score for eight minutes, as Merissa Quick scored six points, and the opening two of the fourth period, to close out an 11-5 spell that narrowly split the teams, making it 43-35.

Key Stat: In a scrappy, defensive game, where the teams shot a combined 30% from the field, the easy baskets from close range made the difference. Archers grabbed 16 offensive rebounds, including five for Quick, and scored 14 second chance points.

Game Hero: Merissa Quick dominated the scoring with 25 points – nearly half of her team’s total – and also added seven rebounds in just 28 minutes.
