“This is an MVP award for the team” – Anne Pedersen

Anne Pedersen has dedicated her MVP award to her team-mates after helping Sevenoaks Suns to an 82-67 triumph over Leicester Riders in the WBBL Trophy Final.

The Copenhagen native scored 21 points and collected five rebounds in a strong display to guide her side to victory.

“It’s nice to be MVP, but it’s not just me, it’s everyone,” Pedersen said of her award..

Cat Carr scored 11 of her game-high 24 points in a pivotal third period for the Suns while GB’s rising star Gabby Nikitinaite contributed 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The Suns edged a high-scoring opening period before pulling away in the third quarter and went on to secure a first-ever piece of WBBL silverware.

“It was a great win for us,” declared Pedersen.

“Everyone contributed and this is an MVP for the team.

“We came out a little slow, but we picked it up and got into our rhythm.

“We like to turn teams over and get the ball out in transition.”

Sevenoaks become the fifth team to win a title in the WBBL’s third year with four different teams participating in the two Finals so far this season.

Pedersen added: “It’s huge for the club – well deserved and sets the tone for the younger players too.

“I’m happy to win a title in my first season overseas with this team.

“We have a great group and I just try to help the team as much as I can.”
