Milligan out to show how far Wolves have developed

Oaklands Wolves travel to Sheffield on Friday full of confidence and ready to demonstrate just how far the team have progressed in recent weeks.

The side from Hertfordshire face an in-form Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters in a game that can be viewed live via BBC Sport.

Having lost several key players, earlier in the season, the Wolves have given a core of young stars the opportunity to showcase their abilities.

“We’ve all had to step up our game in recent weeks,” declared Wolves’ Lauren Milligan.

“Roles have changed and been extended but we’ve all relished the opportunity.

“I’ve personally been looking to be more vocal on court and play more of a leadership role by taking my game to a new gear.

“I think as a group that we’ve adapted really well.

“Our four game win streak has given us a real boost. We’ve shown that we can compete with any team in the league.

“We understand we’ll be the underdogs on Friday but we’re excited to go out on court and show the world what we can do in what should be a great game.

“Sheffield has a veteran team, full of talented players. We must play hard, keep the ball moving and utilise our ability to increase the tempo.”

On Saturday, Caledonia Pride welcome BA London Lions before Cardiff Met Archers take on Durham Palatinates.

Sevenoaks Suns will look to extend their advantage at the top of the table on Sunday with victory over Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters.

Having suffered a first Championship defeat of the season a couple of weeks ago, the team from Sevenoaks responded in impressive fashion last weekend with a pair of victories to send them back to the summit of the standings.

“It was important for us to bounce back and get a couple of positive results last weekend,” admitted Suns forward Milly Watkins.

“Every game has proved to be critical in getting us to this position.

“We will approach this weekend’s contest in the same way as every other game, trying to get better and play closer to our full potential.

“It all starts with our defence; we to need limit Sheffield’s key scorers and make them work for every point.

“Offensively, when we’re working well for each other, points come from all over the court and we’re tough to match up with.”

Nottingham Wildcats host Manchester Mystics to conclude the weekend’s action. The home side could move within two points of the visitors, who currently reside in fourth position.
