London Lions and Sevenoaks Suns maintained their impressive 100% records in the WBBL Championship this evening, while Gloucester City Queens recorded their third win of the campaign in a thrilling contest.

The Queens broke their losing streak which goes back all the way until the middle of October, as they edged Nottingham Wildcats thanks to a spirited final period which saw them score 26 points – the highest amount by any team in a single quarter.

Bianca Osas-Maxwell led the game in points with 19 despite starting on the bench for the home side, while captain Marlee Ball once again put in a hard-working shift earning herself a double-double in the process – with ten points and 12 rebounds.

The Wildcats will be disappointed that they didn’t secure back-to-back victories this weekend, but they will once again take positives from the game including Praise Egharevba’s second double-double in 24 hours, as she dropped 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while going 70% from the field.

Meanwhile in the East Midlands, Leicester Riders were outclassed by an exceptional Lions team who refused to step off the gas in another dominating victory for the title candidates.

Cassie Breen was in red-hot form as she dropped a game-high 21 points despite playing just 19 minutes off the bench, with Joey Leedham-Warner putting up 20 – including five three-pointers as the Lions drained a total of 14 shots from behind the arc.

The Riders struggled to come up with an answer to the quality their opponents had on offence throughout all four quarters, though Robyn Ainge did find some joy on the court as she went 71% from the field, dropping 15 points, while Oceana Hamilton managed a double-double of 11 points and ten rebounds.

It was up to the Suns to respond to the Lions’ dominating victory, as their game tipped-off a little later but they came up with the victory up against a spirited Essex Rebels team who outscored the home side in both quarters in the second-half, but still fell short by eight points.

Suns guard Judit Fritz led the game in scoring with 16, while another four Sevenoaks players reached double-digits for points – including Janice Monakana who put up 12 points from the bench.

Two lay-ups from DeAngelique Waithe and one from Tia Freeman in the final minute made things interesting for the Rebels, but unfortunately for them it was just too little too late as the hosts held on for their 11th successive win.
