Sevenoak Suns, Manchester Met Mystics and Essex Rebels all won on a entertaining day of WBBL action.
In the day’s early tip-off Sevenoak Suns hosted the London Lions with both teams going into the match with unbeaten records. In a pulsating affair it was Suns that came out on top as they edged out Lions 75-72.
It was Lions who started the brighter side as they finished the first quarter with a two-point lead. However, it was tight throughout with neither side able to stamp their authority on the match. Lions went into the last with a tight lead, but it was Suns who kicked on as they played the game out to secure a narrow victory.
Catherine Carr led the scoring for Suns with 24 points while Janice Monakana also had a good game with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Shanice Beckford-Norton starred for Lions contributing 16 points, but it wasn’t enough for her side as they slipped to their first defeat of the season.
Manchester Met Mystics comfortably beat Oaklands Wolves in the days second match. They led throughout and finished the game with 29 more points than their opponents winning 80-51, their fourth victory this season.
Georgia Jones led the scoring for Mystics with 17 points and 9 assists, narrowly missing out on a double – double performance. Hannah Shaw put up 13 points and 8 rebounds in a well-rounded team performance.
The evening tip off saw Essex Rebels travel to Cardiff Met Archers in another tight affair. It was the visitors that went home victors, winning 78 – 73
The lead changed hands throughout the match with Archers winning the first quarter before a dominate second quarter from Essex. The two sides both scored 18 points in the third to set up a nail-biting finish, with Essex only 4 points ahead. Rebels, however, hung on to take home the win.
Deangelique Waithe had an enormous double-double display of 26 points and 17 rebounds as her side secured their eighth win of the season.
