Suns, Riders keep winning at the top

Sevenoaks Suns remain perfect in the league this season, while Leicester Riders continue to be hot on their heels after impressing on BBC Sport.

It was nearly unlucky number 13 for the Suns as they were pushed all the way by Caledonia Pride before overcoming their hosts, 56-59 as Cat Carr finished with a 17-12-9 stat-line.

Leicester’s victory was more convincing on Friday night as a hot shooting display from outside in the first half saw them pull clear of Nottingham Wildcats before winning 82-71.

Alex Smith poured in 27 points in the win for the Riders with Jamila Thompson adding a double-double of 13 rebounds and 10 assists.

“The team to good steps today towards our goal,” said Krumesh Patel.

“Good focus and by in allowed us to great off to great start.

“Nottingham did a great job reacting making it tough for us in the third, however the girls rallied to together and earned the win they deserved today.”

Manchester Mystics joined Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters on a 10-4 record to lead the chasing pack as they produced a strong finish to beat Team Northumbria 72-60.

Oaklands Wolves continued their winning run as they edged out BA London Lions 68-64 to make it four straight victories.

Rachel Morris starred down the stretch, scoring her side’s final 11 points as they denied the Lions a first win on the season.

Durham Palatinates are also still searching for their first scalp as they fell to a 56-69 loss at home to Cardiff Met Archers to round out the weekend with Christina Schnorr netting 20 points.
