There were wins for Nottingham Wildcats, London Lions and Essex Rebels as the British Basketball League Women’s Championship resumed after last week’s Betty Codona Trophy Final.
Nottingham Wildcats 91–61 Cardiff Met Archers
Starting Fives:

Cardiff Met Archers: Abigail Yunker, Laura Shanahan, Solene Lemoigne, Lara Habling, Jenna Hoschouer
Nottingham Wildcats secured their second win of the season – and the first at home since October 2022 – with a 91-61 victory over Cardiff Met Archers.
This put the Wildcats 2-7 for the season and doubled their points tally in the league table. Meanwhile, Cardiff Met Archers are still aiming for their first league win of the season.
First Half:
The Wildcats got off to a strong start, taking an early 10-0 lead. Mari Stewart and Jiselle Havas ran riot in the first half scoring 28 points between them.
Archers forward Lara Habling was in good form, netting half of the visitors’ points during the first half.
Nevertheless, Nottingham stayed strong with a variety of scorers. Captain Mari Stewart and Jessica Wayne also dominated in the battle of the boards, both would finish the game with 11 rebounds.
The Wildcats continued their rampage, posting 48 points and giving themselves a 20-point lead going into the second half.
Second Half:
During the third quarter Cardiff picked up the pace, scoring almost as many points as they did in the whole first half.
The points kept flowing for the Wildcats, with Stewart and Jiselle Havas adding 17 points to the scoreboard. This gave Nottingham a 30-point advantage going into the last quarter.
The final frame played out in a similar fashion to the rest of the game, as Nottingham held onto their 30-point advantage and saw out the rest of the game.
Player of the Game:
Nottingham’s Mari Stewart put in an impressive performance which played a vital role in the victory, posting 26 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.

Leicester Riders 43–85 London Lions

London Lions maintained their unbeaten record this season after inflicting Leicester Riders’ biggest loss of the campaign so far.
First Half:
The Lions got off to a good start, with Temi Fágbénlé and Savannah Wilkinson looking to be the main threats for the Riders.
Temi Fágbénlé had a dominant first half, having scored 17 points with having a strong presence under the basket.
The Riders had a tough second quarter, scoring only four points which came in the first 60 seconds.
From there on London dominated, ending the half with a 30-point lead.
Second Half:
It was a similar story in the second half, with the Lions keeping hold of their 30-point lead.
Leicester tried to fight back, but the pure scoring prowess of the Lions made it difficult for their opponents.
Going into the fourth quarter, there were no signs of slowing down from the Lions, who kept pouring in the points.
London Lions ended the game with a 42-point advantage.
Player of the Game:
Temi Fágbénlé helped the Lions on their way to a comfortable victory, with an impressive 22 points, six rebounds and one assist.

Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles 68 – 83 Essex Rebels

Essex Rebels went 6-3 on the season after a closely fought battle against Seriös Group Newcastle Eagles winning 83-68 to close in on the teams at the top of the table.
First Half:
Both teams started strongly in the first quarter, with the Rebels taking the advantage by four points.
A strong showing from Newcastle’s Marina Fernandez Pardo and Tierra Hodges kept the Rebels from extending their lead further.
A quick succession of baskets by Dayzsha Rogan and Darcy Kay Rees gave Essex Rebels a nine-point lead into the second half.
Second Half:
Once again both teams got off to a good start, but a quick set of free throws and a hook shot from Katherine Tudor helped give the Rebels a 13-point advantage.
Eagles worked hard to reduce the deficit to seven points, but Essex did enough to keep the hosts at bay.
A strong final quarter performance from Katherine Tudor helped the Rebels to put the game to bed, 68-83.
Player of the Game:
Centre Darcy Kay Rees was instrumental in the Rebels getting the victory today, posting an impressive 19 points, 10 rebounds and one assist.
