Super League Basketball is delighted to announce the winner of the Molten Sixth Player of the Year, following a voting process involving the League’s Head Coaches and Captains.
Caledonia Gladiators rookie Delaynie Byrne has scooped the top honour after a super debut campaign for Chantelle Handy’s side where the 6’3″ forward has shone as an interior presence as well as a legitimate threat from the perimeter.
The forward was a key component as the Gladiators secured their first-ever silverware in January by besting the previously undefeated Oaklands Wolves at the Betty Codona Trophy Final in front of a packed Utilita Arena Birmingham.
Reflecting on her win, Byrne said:
“I am incredibly grateful to be chosen to receive this award. It is as much a team award as it is individual. To be able to win this in my rookie season surrounded by such amazing teammates and staff means the world to me. I’m so proud of everything we accomplished this year as a club and even more proud to be a part of it.”
Gladiators Head Coach Chantelle Handy added:
“I’m really happy Delaynie is receiving this award. It is very well deserved for what she has done for the team this season. Congratulations to her for her success.”
